Prairie Plants of the Midwest: Identification and Ecology

This book is a tremendous resource for the identification of tallgrass prairie plants native to the mid-continent of North America. Over 100 illustrations are presented with accompanying plant descriptions and ecological notes. The plants are arranged according to the prairie's three most prominent families: Poaceae (grass), Fabaceae (legumes), and Asteraceae (composite).

The format is extremely user-friendly, and illustrations are designed to serve as an important aid for identification purposes. Plant descriptions are brief with a minimum of technical terms. Ecological notes present information about the general importance of the plants to the prairie community, plant pollination ecology, and unique anatomical structures enabling the species to survive in the prairie community. Both a glossary and phenological (flowering date) chart are included to assist the reader. Over 100 illustrations are included.
